Law Society Seminar
Visiting Fellow Suzelle Smith (Moss), Politics 1975, partner and co-founder of the Los Angeles-based law firm Howarth & Smith, gave a thought-provoking lecture to members of the LMH Law Society and others about her firm’s role as part of the consortium of law firms who have filed an action against the terrorists and organizations believed to be responsible for the September 11 attacks.  There was a lively debate on the possible outcomes of the action, including the issue of collection of damages from state sponsors of terrorism.

The Prince of Wales visited the College in September, to attend the annual conference of the Prayer Book Society.  During his visit the Prince had the opportunity to look at the designs for the new buildings at LMH by architects John Simpson and Partners whose design work includes the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace.  The Principal, Dr. Frnaces Lannon, was in Australia, and so the Vice Principal, Dr. Nicholas Shrimpton, escorted the Prince during his visit.  They are pictured looking at the plans in the entrance to Talbot Hall, together with Mr. Roger Evans, Chairman of the Prayer Book Society.

…IN MALIBU, SAN FRANCISCO AND NEW YORK
In March and April LMH reunions were held for the first time on the west coast of the USA attended by the Principal, Gillian Peele and Peter Watson.  We are most grateful to Michael O’Sullivan (PPE 1982) who sponsored the San Francisco gathering in the spectacular Top of the Mark restaurant overlooking the Bay and to Suzelle Smith (1975 Politics) for hosting the gathering for alumni in southern California at her Malibu residence.
The award-winning Oxford University a capella singing group Out fo the Blue, one of whose veteran performers is LMH’s Shaun Melvin (2003 Mathematics) happened to be on tour along the western United States at the same time and gave a performance to the Malibu guests.
The biennial Oxford University Reunion, including an LMH reception took place in New York at the Waldorf Astoria a few days later.  Over 100 alumni and guests attended these events on the two coasts.  We were delighted to meet with so many, some of whom had traveled considerable distances, and to bring them up to date with developments at LMH.
